I have some Mephisto MBAP that is a month into cure. Tried it out but it doesn’t seem “fully cured” yet - very wonky, harsh waves to the high. At this point I’ve been burping weekly, but is there a benefit to increasing back to daily burping? Does this “speed up” the cure? I have Boveda 62 in the jars (only after the hygrometer shows the jar is stable at 62 ish). Thanks

So you started off burping weekly? I start off twice a day and go to once a day after a week or two. Well I used to until I switched to Grove bags now I don't burp. But I think once a week from scratch is far too infrequent.

No, I think he says that it’s after a month cure… then burping weekly. I could be wrong…

Oh ok. Yeah I'd say you are just drying it out with more frequent burping after a month IMO
I would agree, after a month of cure you should be good to go… some strains never get that “slapuintheface” I would consider them stealth. I had blueberry after one month cure and it was “dull” faded smelling . After 2? Man she was strong blueberry. Once you hit 30days no more need to burp, just opening the jar when gettin the next grind is enough. My average time when doing that is about 4 minutes.

I agree too I used humidity meters for a long time but I don't use them often anymore. I normally just watch a few jars at a time for reference. Another one of the discussions that I've seen change over the past few years. I remember the best advice I got was burp them as often as they need it.lol

Yes, technically, more frequent burping would speed up the curing. How much and whether that would provide the benefit you're looking for is uncertain.

Most of the time, the focus is on preventing THC loss. But, as the THC degrades to CBN, the overall cannabinoid profile changes, which can affect the overall high. Whether that improves the high or not can be complicated, but can also be subjective and a matter of personal preference.

By burping more frequently, you'd be replenishing the oxygen in the jars, which would promote oxidation degradation of THC into CBN. That could mellow out the high for you. It could also eliminate any real buzz if you overdo it. I'm not sure how much oxidation contributes compared to normal decomposition over time, so it may not significantly speed things along (assuming the THC/CBN ratio is what's causing the harshness of the high for you).

The drawbacks would be possible over-drying (which your boveda should help prevent) and additional terpene loss. Terpene loss tends to be due to evaporation, and the evaporation rate decreases as the partial pressure of the terpenes inside the jar increases. By opening the jars more frequently, you'd lose flavor/aroma more quickly...but that sounds like a secondary consideration in your case.

There are a few ways to test if that's what your looking for to improve the high. You could just leave some test nugs in the air unjarred for a few days to a week. They'd dry out a bit, but if it improves the overall high for you, then you'd likely want to burp more often. If so, raising temps slightly and/or exposing to light could also improve the THC/CBN ratio quicker for you.

I start with once a day for 2 weeks after the RH has stabilized at 62 (this is when I add the Boveda - after dried and stabilized ~62%). Then twice a week for two weeks, then weekly for a couple weeks, then monthly.

@KDawg : Really interesting points! Thank you. I love trying to rationally and scientifically try to work out problems - I’m going to test these theories.
