Ive been having soil issues and was wondering whats the best soil for growing ive heard Fox farm ocean forest and happy frog are most recomended. Ive been using black gold organic and adding perilite but still seems a little hot. And All my plants turn a little yellow right after flower starts. At first i thought lack of Nitrogen but now im thinking toxicity and PH are my problems. Anybody have any recommendations on whats the best soil that i can use nutes with?

Well to be honest you can throw your nutes in the trash or give them away unless you want to finish up your investment but I would check out this below..I gaurantee it will be the best weed you have ever grown..I would just thin it out a little bit with some coco or peat or both as it is geared towards photoperiods but it will make life easier.

KIS Organics Biochar Soil Mix is a revolutionary "water only" soil mix for all container and raised bed plants. Ingredients are comprised of organic and natural (minerals). No need to worry about burning your plants either, just plant and water until harvest. Get rid of all your bottled nutrients, and forget about confusing and expensive trips to the hydro shop or garden center. This soil mix has all the beneficial biology, nutrients, and minerals your plant needs to be happy and healthy for up to 6 months.

    Ingredients:

Black Owl Biochar, Alaskan Spaghnum Peat Moss, Oly Mountain Fish Compost, Earthworm Castings, Volcanic Pumice, KIS Organics Microbe Catalyst, Gaia Green Canadian Glacial Rock Dust, Cascade Minerals Basalt, Calphos Soft Rock Phosphate, Pacific Pearl Oyster Shell Powder, Organic Alfalfa Meal, Organic Fish Bone Meal, Organic Crustacean Meal, Acadian Kelp Meal (ascophyllum nodosum), Ahimsa Organics Neem Cake, Ahimsa Organics Karanja Cake, Organic Fish Meal, Organic Feather Meal, Organic Steamed Bone Meal, Natural Calcite, Ag Lime, Mycorrhiza*, and Beneficial Microbes.

FYI: Ocean Forest is a hot soil and doesn't require nutes for the first 3-4 weeks. When I first began growing, I mixed Happy Frog/Ocean Forest/Perlite, then changed to 50/50 Ocean Forest/Perlite for several years. Under traditional led lights, I added Dolomite lime to the mix to help combat calmag problems. Been in coco for a few years and like it better as I wanted to introduce more water/nutes and am happy with the results.

I use ffof with coco mixed 50/50 and love it. And the above posters are right. No nutes needed for the first month but then calmag/ additions is a definate need.

Thanks guys i ended up getting happy frog and ima mix it with perilite and some black gold organic and add my FF nutes if needed since i have them. What Calmag nutes do you guys use? Im thinking of making the jump to hydro or coco. At first i thought of doing coco but i have the space and resources to do DWC and so far that seems the most foolproof easiest form of hydro for me. But that wont be till my next grow so for now soil will have to do thanks for the info.

If masswhole- five pepper/supersoil is available near you pick it up, it's definitely worth getting some in my opinion (I love the stuff but they stopped selling it near me.).

Coast of Maine's Stonington blend (a supersoil blend) is a excellent alternative to the masswhole stuff, I've had lots of luck with coast of maine too.

There's also a bagged supersoil from a company called Detroit nutrients company that's sold a htg, I'm about to try a few bags of it.

    Just my 2cents, I hope it's helpful

I had been using Black gold organic but for some reason my plants do great during veg. very green leaves and thick healthy stems then when they transition to flower the plant starts feeding off itself sucking nitrogen from the big fan leaves wich i know is somewhat normal for the stretch but after they are sucked dry the leaves keep turning yellow all over the plant and i cant figure out why. The plant has plenty of nutes both bloom and veg. At first i thought maybe it was too much so i laid back on the nutes a little and no change. i just ordered some cal-mag hoping this helps my issue. And my ph is around 6.5-7.0. Anyone got any other ideas on what my problem can be. And its not overwatering either . From what ive read sounds maybe like nute lockout.

Not used the FF but I use Plagrons BatMix in airpots 3 / 6 /11 L but it's another 'hot' mix and you don't need to feed thru early veg. For this reason the top few inches are Plagron Light Mix (a finer grade lighter compost with more perlite and less bat guano). Never had any problems with the compost (unless I've overwatered) so another one I'd recommend.

Can't find non US/Canadian supplier for KiS, so wont get that in UK/EU easily. Likewise you might not get some of our mixes. Something worth keeping in mind when we recommend products.

I just bought some Happy Frog, will I need to add perilite?

Also when will I need to start adding my nutes, after 3 or 4 weeks?
