Some would argue that I am more serious about my DIY habit than I am about my lighting.

I am now putting together a decarb oven controlled by an inkbird PID temperature controller. The only thing more fun than DIY is DIY with some tech thrown in.

I like doing DIY and building what I can for myself but I’m a cheap bastard is why I do it!
Is that the inkbird deal that is just the computer part that u set the temp and differentials on and gotta wire in what you are controlling?? Saw it on amazon at one point! I think!

I wasn't going to mention the cheap part, but since you bring it up, me too.

This is the Inkbird:

Amazon product
It requires a bit of wiring skills to put it together, but not bad. The PID part is pretty neat. The thing seems to have a computer that optimizes its behaviour to produce far more stable temperature than a standard thermostat. It actually learns how often to turn the heat on and off, and when, to hit the target temperature and keep it right there. I am looking forward to seeing what it does. I will use it to drive a slow cooker with the ceramic liner removed and replaced with a stainless tray for holding the weed. I will do some fiddling to figure out the best setup to get consistent temps, and then the decarbs begin. Total cost less than $100 CDN, higher capacity than the Nova or its larger sister. I can even split the tray into two halves and do a couple strains at a time. And as new information arises about optimum decarb sequences, I can adjust the Inkbird to match whatever needs doing.

Gotta love these inkbird electronics. Super effective, absolutely reliable, and dirt cheap for what you get. Did I mention that I like Inkbird? A lot.

Down to 32 but I'd just like a healthy grow at this point.
Sorry I'm just catching up from the start of the thread. I am finally (knock on wood) over the hump with a multiple pest infestation that I have been fighting for nearly a year. The first unwanted visitor to my garden were Hemp Russet Mites and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. Shortly after I realized what I had (they are microscopic) out of nowhere I got slammed with fungus gnats. Took me nearly 2 months to get rid of the fungus gnats using the Mosquito bits I saw pictured in your cabinet, and I cut 2" wide strips of the sticky paper and stuck them together to make a ring around the inside rim of my pots. And I used a box fan like in your photo to blow across the tops of the soil. Those three things will get rid of them for you.

The Hemp Russet Mites were another story. I tried several sprays and oils and I swear they were swimming backstrokes in the stuff sipping beers. It's like it had no effect on them. A friend suggested sulfur burns and although they knocked down the population quite a lot I could never seem to get rid of them entirely. I finally found a product called Bonide Sulfur Plant Fungicide. It is a very fine dust that you can apply as a dust or like I did you can mix it with water and spray it on your plants. I bought one of those 2 gallon outdoor pump up sprayers with the wand with the curve on the end. I thoroughly mixed up 1 gallon of the mix and generously sprayed first the underside of the leaves starting from the bottom working up. Then sprayed the tops of the leaves. This stuff is MAGIC as far as I am concerned.

I actually had one plant with some straggler fungus gnats so I said what the heck and sprayed down the top of the soil with some of the leftover Bonide spray and within 2 days didn't see another fungus gnat.

I have four plants in veg, about 12" tall and are the happiest and healthiest plants I've grown in nearly a year. Growing is fun again for me finally.

Thanks for the tips!

I've had fungus gnats in Coco before but I was dripping. Covered with hydroton and that was it but this was worse. They stayed under the pots in moisture. Very discouraging having all the problems but empowering to have solutions for it all.

That's the meter. A few of the reviewers checked the performance against high end meters, and readings were close. I don't care about high accuracy, as long as it is reasonably close. There is likely more variation among plants and strains as there is inaccuracy in the meter, as long as the sensor is actually a quantum sensor. The suspicion factor is that the manufacturer also makes a lux meter that looks pretty much identical at the sensor end. At any rate, I will test it against my camera meter among dramatically different light sources. If it seems that the two are measuring different things, I will be happy. If it doesn't, I will be ~$200 poorer for no good reason,

Once I get the meter and go through the tests, I will do a blog on the meter checks and the light output of my screw in arrays. I will tag you then. It will be a while getting through the mail and across the border. Which works well, the growdrobe will be empty and cleaned up by the time it gets here.
Also u won’t be $200 poorer! Just tell amazon it doesn’t work as advertised and they’ll let u return it! Once I get my strips to build me a light I’ll prob rent an apogee meter to get my #’s dialed in!

Those "cobs" are crazy looking. So its undried, uncured, and untrimmed buds wrapped in plastic to ferment? You're making kimchi weed.

Yup lol.

Wrapped in corn husk and sealed to ferment at 120ish for 36 hours. Unsealed and allowed to dry for a few hours, resealed and back to fermenting for three weeks. I'm in week two.

Yes, that is the bigger sister I mentioned. If you want to really make my day, you will check the temperature sequence the unit uses for its cbd cycle. I am pretty sure that I have the data for the THC sequence in the Nova, but can't find it for the specific cbd sequence used by the FX. I'm betting that the CBD temperature is about 230F, but would love to be corrected. You can PM me if you are interested in checking for me.

Sadly, the PAR meter is from Ebay, so returns might be an issue. It is the same supplier as Amazon.ca and Amazon.com, but I got a better price on Ebay, and the feedback on the supplier is top notch, so I went for it. I expect it will work fine. Another techie boy toy. I would have rented in a heartbeat, but could not find an option in Canada.

Happy FX'ing @TxRebel/Mark. :pighug:
