Inspiration came to me like a seed - it popped it’s first leaves and as it inched its way toward the light, my ideas became clearer: I want to grow some weed. I want to grow really good weed.

I did it once before - in my closet. I successfully raised three photo- Blue Dream beauties. I got a nice little yield from the three plants - about 4 ounces - and the buds were potent. As I went on to try growing other plants, I soon realized it was way too hot in my closet in the summer in California. Everything I tried to grow, withered up and died in my un-air-conditioned house, under High Pressure Sodium lights. I got frustrated and gave up.

I wondered if I had a grow tent, and maybe used LED lights, if it might be easier to control temperature. It seemed it would if I could get a ventilation system with it. I looked at some on the internet and quickly realized that the equipment I was wanting was going to be expensive. I didn’t think I could afford it. I wondered if I could get a credit card and pay off the equipment. This led me on a goose chase in which I learned that I don’t have bad credit - I have no credit history. A credit counselor told me he could help me if it were bad, but not if I didn’t have any. There are plenty of grow stores online that offer financing through PayPal and other means, but I kept not qualifying for their credit either, for the same reasons - no credit. I eventually came across a company who offered leasing. I browsed the complete grow set ups and decided this was the one I wanted. I applied. Surprise, surprise! A leasing company called decided they would give a $1200 limit. I went for it.

I went back to the product page for the tent, led, auto pot, ventilation system, and grow medium. I added all the extras - CO2 bucket, herb dryer, nutes, grow guide. The total came to $1700 or so. I then hit the “make an offer” button and offered - you guessed it - $1200. The company got back to me the next day and agreed to take my offer. Yes!

My grow set should be here this coming weekend and I’ve been obsessed with planning what I’ll grow and going over how to grow. I’ve discovered and fallen in love with the idea of auto-flowering marijuana. It grows and flowers according to its age instead of according to a set amount of light and darkness. That means I don’t have to mind the lights! And they don’t take very long to grow and flower. Some take 60 days. Others around 3 months. Nowhere near the 4-6 months it takes to grow photosensitive marijuana. Yes, I’m in love with an independent plant - it flowers because it’s ready to, not because I forced it to with light. They say the yield is smaller, but I’ve seen some pretty large yields from autos that were grown online. Especially when low stress training is being used.

I’ve decided the first strain I’m going to auto-flower is Tangerine Dream. I got some seeds from a seed company in California. I got AK, too, but we’ll do those next. The website says Tangerine Dream is mostly sativa, likes a humid environment, and is easy to grow.

In researching using the autopots I will be getting with the grow set, I found a mini-controversy. There is something you can bury in the bottom of an autopot (Or I suppose any pot) called an “air dome.” Air is pumped to the roots through the little dome. The idea is that this provides more oxygen to the roots. The controversy is that some say this is not necessary while others say it raises yield by up to 130%. I wasn’t sure which side was right until i saw a Youtube video of a hot pepper grower who grew plants with air domes next to those without. The ones with the dome were a bit taller and had crazy, long red peppers. The other had a normal sized green pepper. I’m going with the air domes!

I’ve been obsessed with browsing online seed catalogs for different auto strains. I love sativas. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, please let me know. I’m looking forward to hearing from you all and hopefully learning from you,

I have that inline fan. I can tell you right now you're going to need a fan controller unless you want to suck too much humidity out of your tent. Do not buy one of the cheap $10-20 ones. They work by continually cutting the power and turning it back on. The result is a buzzing sound and needless wear and tear on the fan. I can't recommend this affordable variable transformer highly enough. I would carry it to bed with me every night if it wasn't busy working for me 24 hours a day.
