Good evening AFN! I plan to pop my fast buds seeds for my first grow EVER, very soon! I plan on growing organically using the KIS organics water only soil in 7 gal fabric pots, RO watered, grown underneath a mars hydro sp250 in a slightly larger than 2x4 tent.

My main concerns are for the seedling stage of the plants life. Can I plant the seedling directly into the KIS? I've heard from a few growers it'd be best to plant the seedling into a 50/50 mix of KIS and another base medium, and create some sort of root zone of this 50/50 mix for the young plant to grow through. If that is the case what medium would best compliment the KIS for an early stage 50/50 mix?

I'm trying to keep this grow as simple as possible as it is my first ever. With that being said I know there is much more I need to research to get the most out of my organic grow. Any suggestions that would improve my grow or address upcoming issues before they arise would be greatly appreciated. For instance any cover crops that would helpful, simple compost tea recipes, etc etc. (If I even need compost teas.)

When it comes to growing, I'm as green as the plant we love and hopefully my queries land in a helpful lap bc I'm all ears. Cheers folks

Hey there, nice choice of medium you chose. For your first cycle, you could go water only the whole way. I'd recommend a compost tea, when they switch to full flower mode (about 40ish days in). And mycorhizae, especially early on.
I used 100% seed starter in small 2.25" coco pots to start them in, then just drop them into final container at 10-14 days old. Worked out really well on my KIS Biochar run.

Appreciate your reply @Roasty McToasty. Ideally I was looking to plant my freshly germinated seed right into it's final container to try and reduce the risk of transplant shock. I'm not too familiar with seed starters but I have no problem doing the necessary research on them. I have seen the KIS biochar but haven't looked much into so I'll add that to the list also. Is it comparable to the water only bag do you know?

I doubt that there's much difference other than the Bio char being added. Not sure how much difference it makes, if any.
Now with the coco pot, there is no stress to the seedling. Just bury the pot in final container, and the roots will grow right through the coco pot. Once it gets into the KIS soil, it will take right off. The key is to keep the soil moist, not too wet or too dry. Can be difficult if you have to spend too much time away from them.

Mmmm my man @Roasty McToasty appreciate these dimes you're dropping. I have seen these smaller coco pots before but was a bit unsure as to what they were really used for. Now when you say 100% seed starter I'm assuming that's the medium you're using inside these smaller coco pots? Which look like they're also available in peat...

And if I'm understanding you correctly you're starting the whole coco pot outside of the final pot and then transplanting into it's final container? While in it's coco pot how does the seedling get tended to?

Yes, seed starter in coco pot, yes outside the final kis soil pot. Keep the seed starter moist, not too wet or dry with water only. Simply set the seedling in coco/peat pot into final kis soil pot after at least 10 days.

Appreciate your help @Roasty McToasty. Unfortunately it's costing me more to ship the KIS than it is to purchase the two bags ‍♂. Looks like I'll be using kind soil. Thanks again for your advice
Yeah bro, the shipping is ridick. I reuse the soil over and over, so I justify the initial costs with that. Not to mention the premium smoke that I get, and the ease of grow.
KIS also has a nutrient pack that you could amend into a nice, cheaper local soil. Downside to that is, you'll have to let it "cook" for at least a month after mixing.
I would still recommend starting in tiny coco pots with seed starter, then dropping into nutrient rich soil after 10 days. This lets the roots get a little more establish, before they get bombarded with nutes. Good luck on your grow, and if you share it, tag me in.

yeah the shipping is tough. I'm working on it, but being a small business we don't get the same rates as Amazon and such. And the soil is really heavy with everything we put in it.I'm hoping to open another mixing location closer to the east cost but need to make sure I can maintain quality.

One other option is to use the Nutrient Pack but mix at 1/2 or 1/4 strength. Then you don't need to wait a month before using it. A few days would probably be fine.
