I've been playing with a couple of COB layouts and love them! BUT I was intrigued by these new multiple chip, composite boards being designed by Horticultural Light Group, I believe the commercial lighting entity of Photon Labs/Northern Growlights.

The light WITH the heatsink in thinner than my tablet! Not sure on the weight, maybe 1 pound....

Hope the guys don't mind, I'm posting the specs as copied from thier website:

QB304 Quantum Boards
High efficiency boards designed for DIY projects. Can be powered from 10 to 150 watts. Ideal for use in grow tents or grow area with reflective walls and grow spaces with limited height. No TIM is required.

Specifications
  • 304pcs Samsung 561C top bin Diodes
  • Connectors rated 300V 9A
  • Estimated LER 321.60 lm/W
  • Estimated QER 4.86 µmol/J
  • Dimensions 6.833" x 11.25
Voltage* (Vf dc) Current (mA) Watts at Board (Watts)
Lm/W at Board** (40C)

101.8 250 25.45 200
103.1 350 35.70 192.5
105.1 500 52.55 184.3
106.9 700 74.83 176.8
109.9 1050 115.39 166.7
112.6 1400 157.64 158.7
* Voltage calculated using sample board. Voltage may be +/- 4% for boards in different batches.

** For more details refer to Calculator here. Use values LM561C, 3000K, 80 CRI, AZ Voltage Bin, S5 Flux bin. # of LED as 304x (number of boards). Change IF_Drive mA to see lm/W and flux for different power.

May require an Aluminum plate or heatsink if running 50+ watts. Heastink requirements depends on application and power.

Next up, My light in action!

I was so into what I was doing, I forgot to take photos. I can add build pics later, its really dead simple! It will take you longer to gather the parts and tools than to build!

Here she is hanging and in action, its the only light on in these pics....:

I'm very tempted to do a grow with the single board on my 2.75x2.75x5' tent just to see what it will do on its own, compared to the 345 actual watt powered Mars Hydro 192x3 Reflector light thats in there now. The Mars I must say has worked fairly well, much better than the Vipar I want to use for target practice...lol! Coverage isn't an issue, the light is almost as big as my tent! I've pulled .72gpw with it, not bad for a burple light, not anything to write home about either. Without a doubt, 2 of the Quatum Boards would be better for that space, I just want to see how much I can wring out of this tiny light!
