If I bury pots in the ground for a large photoperiod (free seeds so...) will it restrict the plants enough to keep their size down? I know in the greenhouses any larger plants that have to be sold in one or two gallon pots are deliberately size restricted as they are moved between winter cold frames into the sales areas. They are trimmed and made manageable by pot size restrictions. I was given Bruce Banner seeds and after reading about them there is no way I'm letting them get as large as their stated finish size. I know the yield will be smaller but then I don't care.
    Alternative is topping and LST?
Thank you all for any ideas.

Hey man, if you bury a pot in the ground make sure it's a plastic one not a fabric as I think the roots will grow straight through it......if your wanting to restrict its size why not just use a standard 15gal fabric pot without burying it?

Topping and some LST will keep them short and bushy.
I start my photos right about now and use 3 gallon pots at the biggest.
About the tallest I can let them get is two feet, so that's about a little under 3 ft total with the pot.

Is it height only that you need to restrict or overall size?

If you want big low plants, just tie them along the ground as they grow and make them grow like a vine. That's an old guerilla trick my dad used to do. He'd lay them over and keep pinning the main stem down so the plant never got over two feet off the ground but might run for 10-12 feet.
